LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Ervin Brinker, 69, of Dalton, has been sentenced to 32 months to 10 years in prison after he pled guilty to embezzling and Medicaid Fraud after he diverted public funds to a psychic in Florida.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced that Brinker will also pay $1,020,000 as part of his plea agreement. The money includes restitution to Summit Pointe, the community mental health authority in Battle Creek, and a penalty to Michigan.
Brinker will also give up his pension from the state.
Summit Pointe records showed $510,000 was sent to a palm reader in Key West, Florida and her husband. The records show that Brinker claimed the money went to pay a "health care consultant."
Schuette said in a release, "The cost of abusing the public trust in Michigan is very high, for both the abuser and the tax payer. I would like to thank Summit Point and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for assisting in this investigation."
