Branch County homeowner shoots hunter in field behind house, thought he was an animal
BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. —
A Branch County hunter was taken to the hospital after being shot by a homeowner who thought he was an animal.
It happened at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night in a field behind a home on Hodunk Road in Union Township, near Coldwater.
Michigan State Police told Newschannel 3 the man was laying down in the field hunting varmint when someone who lives nearby shot him, thinking he was an animal.
The victim was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. There is no word yet on his condition.
Police said the hunter was not wearing any orange hunting gear at the time.
The shooting is under investigation.
