PAW PAW, Mich. — The Van Buren County Sheriff Office identified the people involved in the two-car fatal crash in Hartford Township and said an arrest was made.
Jose Humberto Canedo, 23, Benton Harbor, was arrested and arraigned Tuesday for failure to appear for a hearing on the charge of operating while intoxicated.
Police said Canedo was driving east on Red Arrow Highway near 60th Street about 2:30 p.m. Saturday Jan. 12, 2019, when he drifted over the center line and hit a 2007 black Jeep Cherokee head on.
Mary Ann Fender, 73, Paw Paw, was killed and Janet Carol Campbell, 56, Paw Paw, was rushed to the hospital.
Skylinn Sirenne Salinas, 6, was in the vehicle with Canedo and died from her injuries. Canado and Jesse James Canedo, 1, were taken to the hospital.
A judge set bond for Canado at $500,000 and the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office could file criminal charges.
