Battle Creek woman stabbed with sword in domestic incident


BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A woman was severely injured in a sword stabbing in Battle Creek.

It happened around 2:45 a.m. Friday in the 5200 block of Skyview Lane in Battle Creek, this is at the Teal Run Apartments.

Police tell Newschannel 3 they got a call a 35-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times with a 3-foot-long sword in a domestic incident. It appears the man, known to the woman, broke into the apartment and attacked the woman with the sword.

She was taken to the hospital with very serious injuries and quickly taken into surgery. She is in serious condition right now.

Investigators tell Newschannel 3 there were three children in the home at the time of the incident, but they were not harmed.

A 13-year-old witness, who police said is the child of the victim and suspect, said his 35-year-old father was responsible for the incident.

The suspect took off from the home and was fleeing toward Kalamazoo, according to investigators. Kalamazoo County deputies found the car with the man driving on King's Highway just outside the city of Kalamazoo.

The man was arrested without incident and lodged in the Calhoun County Jail on home invasion and assault with intent to murder charges.

The weapon was recovered at the scene. A motive is not clear at this time.
