BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A 22-year-old man was charged with two counts of murder in a deadly shooting in Battle Creek over the weekend.
Along with the murder charges, Todd Bolden was charged with one count of carrying a firearm in the commission of a crime in the Saturday evening shooting, according to court documents.
Veronica Cica, 22, and her father, Steven Cica, 44, died in the shooting on Algonquin Street around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.
Veronica Cica died at the scene. However, her father, Steven Cicadied at the hospital the following day,according to police.
Their family is in complete shock, telling News Channel 3 that two young children will have to cope with the loss of their mother and grandfather this Christmas.
"Words can’t explain it, it doesn’t feel real. I'm hoping to just wake up, but words can’t explain how I feel. He will rot in prison, to the fullest extent," Austin said.
Bolden is the father of Veronica's children, according to Veronica's brother, Austin Cica.
On Sunday, he voluntarily turned himself into police custody and was taken to the Calhoun County Jail, according to authorities.

Bolden's bond was denied, and he is due back for a preliminary hearing Jan. 5, 2024.
If convicted, the 22-year-old faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
This is the 11th and 12th homicides of the year for the City of Battle Creek.
The family set up a Go Fund Me to help with the funeral expenses.
