BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek police said one person was in custody in connection to a deadly party shooting that happened early in the early morning hours of July 28.
Investigators said 27-year-old Andre Watson died at the scene and his 29-year-old sister was injured in the shooting. She was treated and later released from Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Police said the person in custody was being held on weapons charges in connection to shooting.
The shooting took place outside an apartment at the Arbors of Battle Creek apartment complex off of Capital Avenue Southwest.
Donavin Kuhn, who lives in the complex, said he was coming home from work as the party was going on.
"They were partying because it was someone’s birthday,” said Kuhn.
In the security camera footage News Channel 3 obtained from a neighbor, you can hear more than 20 gun shots in nine seconds.
"I plan on moving out soon because of this. It's just all violence, kind of scary,” said Gary Whinthrop, who lives in the apartment complex.
Battle Creek police said officers were already responding to a noise complaint at the complex when the shooting started around 5:30 a.m.
Kuhn said he heard people arguing right before he heard the gun shots.
"Then I heard get back, get back, get back! Then I heard one shot and he lays back on the ground looking up and then I just heard boom boom boom boom,” said Kuhn.
Police searched cars, apartments and collected evidence for nearly 10 hours at the scene and around the apartment complex.
Battle Creek police did not release the name of the person in custody on weapons charges.
