BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Fire crews are on the scene of a house fire Thursday morning in Battle Creek.
Just after 7 a.m., crews responded to a home at 36 Chestnut Street, in Battle Creek, on a report of a fire.
Initial reports that the home may have been occupied proved incorrect, as the house was abandoned, and had no gas or electricity running to it.
Firefighters took out the fire, but we're told there is heavy damage to the back of the home, as well as the inside, where there are still small fires burning as of around 8 a.m. Crews are inside the home tending to those.
The cause is undetermined at this time, and the fire chief tells us they don't want to assume that it's suspicious, but he adds that the lack of gas or electricity is a factor they are investigating.
