Bangor School Board meets after video goes viral

BANGOR, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Bangor School officials are meeting Monday night after a video of Bangor teachers talking inappropriately about special needs students went viral.

Newschannel 3’s Investigative Reporter Walter Smith-Randolph broke this story at noon. He is in Bangor for that meeting and spoke exclusively with the mother of one of the students.

The mother says she is furious with faculty and staff in Bangor. Her son has autism and she says on the tape she can hear her son’s special needs teacher talking about having sexual relations with her child.

The video of the teachers talking was taken in a local pub. On that video, teachers and staff can be heard making inappropriate comments about several students and other faculty members.

Newschannel 3 has blurred out the faces because no one has been criminally charged, but police are investigating because several parents have filed complaints.

Amanda Reprogal says she wants an apology and for the teachers to be disciplined.

“I’m really heartbroken over it,” said Reprogal. “I mean, I get it, I’ve gone out in public and vented myself, but I’m not a teacher. I think they should be held to higher standards and it doesn’t matter how angry you are, how you need to let off steam, you can’t talk about children this way. All these children they’re talking about are underage. This is not okay.”

Newschannel 3 has reached out to district officials, but have not yet heard back. Newschannel 3 is at Monday night’s school board meeting and will provide updates at 10 and 11.
