Hundreds of people across the Midwest will be without a job at the start of the new year.

Newschannel 3 has confirmed that AT&T is laying off 332 people.

A representative with the Communications Workers of America labor union said 245 of these workers are based in Michigan. They were all notified this morning about being laid off.

About 100 of the workers are from the downtown Detroit office, and at least a dozen are outdoor technicians working in Kalamazoo.

Other workers are in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana.

We are told these workers are indoor and outdoor technicians.

The workers are expected to be off the payroll by the beginning of the new year.
