Arson investigation leads to arrest in Kalamazoo


KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - One person will face charges accused of intentionally setting a fire at a home in Kalamazoo.

It happened Sunday night around 9:15 p.m. at a home on Myers Street, near Vine Street, in Kalamazoo's Edison neighborhood.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said they were called out for a report of flames showing.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they said they found smoke and fire coming from the north side of the home. They also spotted a resident who was having difficulty breathing sitting outside the home.

Firefighters got the fire under control in less than an hour.

The victim was treated at the scene and is expected to be okay.

The Fire Marshal investigated and a suspect was later arrested on arson charges.

KDPS is reminding everyone to have a working fire extinguisher in your home, as well as working smoke detectors on each level.
