ALLEGAN, Mich. — A man who police say stole a work van from the Perrigo Plant and then crashed it was formally charged and arraigned Thursday.
Jason Schultz, 39, of Plainwell, was arraigned in Allegan County District Court on two felony counts, including carjacking and unlawful driving away of a vehicle.
According to Allegan Police, Schultz stole a utility van from the parking lot of a Perrigo plant and crashed it in Towbridge Township. Schultz then fled into a wooded area and was tracked down by a K-9 unit. After two hours of negotiations, Schultz was taken into custody.
He was arraigned Wednesday with one count of tampering of an electronic monitoring device. Police said Schultz was wearing an electronic tether when he was arrested.
Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker said Schultz was already wanted for a separate incident where Schultz allegedly stole a truck and drove into a pond on Monday.
Schultz is due in court on Feb. 21. His bond was set at $140,000.
