With 60s in the forecast for the first time this year, employees at a local golf course were busy getting things ready to open on Saturday.

Paul Simonds, the head professional at Eastern Hills golf course, said the course would be open to walking golfers this weekend. Located northeast of Kalamazoo, sandy soil and plenty of sun means their fairways are snow-free and ready for golfer's best swings.

The Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association, which oversees the operation of Eastern Hills, Milham Park and Red Arrow golf courses, recommended tee times in anticipation of a busy opening day. Milham Park and Red Arrow golf courses will not be open just yet.

Dean Marks, KMGA's Director of Golf, said as a historical average at least one of their courses typically opens by mid-March. Last year, golfers were first welcomed back to Eastern Hills on March 7, 2021.

Grand Prairie Golf Course in Kalamazoo also announced a Saturday opening on Facebook, complete with special spring rates.

Saturday is definitely the pick day to get out this weekend. Our forecast features highs in the mid-60s on Saturday, followed by chillier air and a lot of wind on Sunday.
