24-year-old facing child abuse charges after Branch County infant treated for head trauma
And investigation was launched in June after a 7-month-old was treated for head trauma at Bronson Hospital.
Now, James William Smith, 24, is facing two charges of criminal child abuse.
Michigan State Police investigators from the Marshall Post became involved in the case after it was determined that the infant's injuries were "non-accidental." Police said the child suffered the injuries in a home in the 200 block of Wheatfield in Branch County's Sherwood Township.
The child was taken to Bronson Battle Creek by Life Care ambulance June 18, and then transferred to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where the infant was treated by the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
