21-year-old Hartford man shot Monday night

A 21-year-old Hartford man was shot on Monday night in Dowagiac, according to police.

Dowagiac Public Safety was called to Ameriwood Furniture at 10:10 p.m. where police said the man, who had just arrived to work, was followed into the parking lot by a dark SUV parked near his car.

Officers said he was approached by a man from the SUV, who pulled out a gun and tried to rob him. Four more men then approached them and helped rob the victim, according to police.

As the victim ran away from the struggle, police said he was shot several times.

The suspects were accused of taking the victims vehicle. Officers found the same car outside of Dowagiac with nobody inside later in the night.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind. where he was treated on Tuesday morning for non-life threatening injuries.

The five suspects are described as five 18- to 20-year-old men.
