BATTLE CREEK — Two Lansing-area men are being held at the Calhoun County Jail and facing multiple human trafficking-related charges following an investigation by officers with the Battle Creek Police Department and several other agencies.
34-year-old Alexander Murray and 39-year-old Kevin Nemeth were arraigned on Friday, Jan. 11 after information of drugs and prostitution being present at an area hotel on Jan. 4 led police to a large investigation.
Murray was arrested on warrants from Arizona during the first encounter with police, but Nemeth fled the scene. According to BCPD, a joint human trafficking investigation was launched alongside U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Homeland Security Investigations, the Ingram County Sheriff's Office, Lansing Police Department and Michigan State Police First District Fugitive Team.
The investigation led to the rescue of two human trafficking victims and the arrest of Nemeth. Information about the two victims saved will not be released at this time, according to BCPD.
