Calhoun County animal control deputies found 17 dogs left in the cold at an Emmett Township home Thursday night.

Police said the dogs were barking and seemed to be distressed, with minimal shelter, and frozen food and water.

The homeowner, 65, is also suspected of breeding dogs for dog fighting.

All of the dogs were taken to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter after a search warrant was obtained, where they were looked at by a local veterinarian.

Deputies said Friday additional charges might follow the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 269-781-0880 or Silent Observer at 269-781-9700.
