KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Participants in the 19th annual St. Patrick's Day parade will begin their march Saturday, March 16 in Kalamazoo.
Irish pride will be represented rain or shine starting at 11 a.m. at the Burdick Street Mall on Michigan Avenue. The parade will continue marching south down Burdick Street, right on Cedar Street and ending in front of the Knights of Columbus Hall.
The Kalamazoo Bicycle Community was named this year's Grand Marshall by the Irish American Club of Kalamazoo. The Irish American Clubs is hosting the parade. Bicyclists from various local bike clubs will lead the parade to honor fallen bikers and those who have been injured while riding.
A "Hooley," an authentic Irish Party, will immediately follow the parade as a fundraiser for local families battling cancer. The Irish American Club of Kalamazoo, the Quinn School of Irish Dance and Celtic Seasons have organized the event, with proceeds to be distributed to two local families.
The seventh annual Hooley for Healing will be held at noon at Bell’s Brewery Inc., 355 E. Kalamazoo Ave. The annual St. Patrick’s Day event will include Irish Step Dancers, music by Whiskey Before Breakfast, a silent auction and other activities.
