The 57th annual Maple Hill Kalamazoo Holiday Parade kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 10, hosting plenty of events for families to partake in throughout the foreseeable chilly morning and afternoon.

With over 90 parade units, the jaunt across Kalamazoo is expected to start around 11 a.m. near the corner of Lovell Street and Portage Street. The route will take the parade through Lovell to Park, Park to Michigan, Michigan to Pitcher and Pitcher to Lovell.

Julie Drummond, a long time Kalamazoo resident, said she's been coming to the parade for 30 years. "It's awesome! The bands, and Santa and the end is the best. You have to wait for that."

New to the parade festivities in 2018, the Kalamazoo Mall area will host a Touch-A-Truck event, giving kids the chance to get up close and personal with fire trucks. Live music and other games hosted by local businesses will also be concentrated in the Kalamazoo Mall and Bronson Park areas.

Event planners estimate 20- to 30-thousand people will flock to the downtown area. Andrew Haan, President of the Downtown Kalamazoo Partnership, said the event is huge for the city.

"It's great for the businesses we get to show off what's come over the last year. You know every year we have new businesses, new events, new public spaces. It gives people from the whole region a reason to come down and see what's changed in the last year. If maybe they don't get here often." Haan said.
