Warning to drivers: first day of school
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Kids are heading back to class Tuesday morning!
For many it will be their first time waiting for the school bus, or maybe driving themselves to school.
And drivers should know that will mean there will be a lot more cars out on the roads today, including school buses making their first stops of the year.
Michigan State Police wants to remind you when the red lights are flashing and the stop sign is out, you need to come to a complete stop on both sides of the road. This is unless it is a divided highway.
If you see yellow hazard lights glowing on the bus, you need to slow down and proceed with extreme caution.
There will also be a lot more traffic out on the roads Tuesday morning. MSP reminds drivers to slow down and give yourself extra time. Troopers say you should hover your foot over the brake instead of the gas.
Extra officers will be out on patrol all across West Michigan in school zones.
