While some might believe tackling racism is too large a task, local experts say the community can unify and heal through inclusion and conversation.
But before racism can be overcome, it must be identified.

“I think all of us need to care about each other. I think, if we are going to get anywhere as a society for the good of the country and southwest Michigan, we have to understand that all of us do better when all of us do better,” said Tim Ready, a professor of race and ethnic relations at Western Michigan University.
