Road Trippin': Gilmore Car Museum is fun for everyone, not just car buffs
Whether it's a beautiful fall day or it's raining cats and dogs, the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, is a perfect activity for the whole family to enjoy.
Started in 1963 as a private hobby, the Gilmore Car Museum has grown to be North America’s largest auto museum, now sitting on 90 acres of land. The museum displays about 400 cars and has another 160 or so in storage.
The museum includes hands-on exhibits that will entertain anyone who visits. One allows visitors to turn on the exhaust of a muscle car and hear the roar in person.
Many exhibits rotate throughout the year, but one that stays is the classic muscle cars exhibit. Besides that, they have cars that go from the 1890s clear into more modern cars. An exhibit recently added is on barn finds, featuring cars that have been found in, you guessed it, old barns! They also have a Dusenberg exhibit, which weren't just cars for the wealthy, you had to be ultra-wealthy. That's where the phrase 'It's a doozy' came from!
Outside of the main museum building, they have a dealership row featuring Cadillac, Lincoln and Ford! They also have an old diner where visitors can stop and eat in to refuel from the day of exploring.
If you are lucky, most days you'll see the antique cars driving around their campus.
A very family friendly campus for all to enjoy!
