Anthony Tyus III said he has dreamed of playing football at a Big Ten school since he was a young boy.
On National Signing Day, Tyus had the opportunity to make his dream a reality when he signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Northwestern University, Dec. 16, 2020. The former Portage Northern running back rushed for 4,499 yards throughout his career. He racked up 51 total touchdown throughout his career as a Huskie and averaged 9.3 yards per carry throughout his tenure.
"This is a dream come true, honestly a dream come true and everything played its part and everything happened for a reason and allowed me to end up here. Great family, great community, friends. Everything coming together and allowing me to become a part of this new culture at Northwestern," Tyus said.
The Wildcats haven't been the face of the Big Ten, but they'll have a shot to stake their claim as conference champions when they face Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship. The team's recent turn around helped Tyus make his decision.
"Seeing that they're growing and seeing the atmosphere how their building on top of things and knowing that Coach Fitz along with the rest of the staff are there to win and there to have fun, there to create an atmosphere and most importantly there for the kids. They're there for the athlete but also the character and the man of the future," he said.
Tyus also has big dreams off the field. After his playing days are over he wants to be a doctor. He has finished his classes at Portage Northern and he would be enrolling early to Northwestern in January 2021.
