Michigan health officials reported 4,730 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, bringing the total to 442,715.

The state reported 183 more deaths from the virus between both days. Of those, 71 were identified through vital records review. As of Tuesday, 10,935 people have died from COVID-19 in Michigan.
State officials said three times a week, the staff at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews records that identify COVID-19 as a case of death. They then match the records with laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19.
The state health department launched an online dashboard Dec. 14, to track the vaccine distribution across the state.
As of Dec. 15, 297 health care providers had enrolled to administer the vaccine.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, the United States has seen more than 16 million cases and 299,737 deaths. Worldwide, 72.5 million people have contracted the disease, and 1.6 million have died.
As of Friday, Dec. 11, a total of 236,369 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus. A patient is considered recovered when they are clear of the disease 30 days after initial onset. State health officials report that Michigan labs have completed 7,909,929 tests as of Dec. 13, to check for infection by the virus, SARS-CoV-2, that causes the disease.
As of Tuesday, Dec. 14, there have been 18,722 confirmed cases among residents in long-term care facilities in Michigan. There have been 4,020 reported resident deaths in long-term facilities.
