Lions center accused of verbal abuse
WISCONSIN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A controversy is brewing for the Lions.
The organization says it is investigating whether center Dominic Raiola verbally abused members of the University of Wisconsin marching band during Sunday's game at Lambeau Field.
The alleged insults reportedly involved the sexuality and physical appearance of some of the band members.
Wisconsin officials say that Lions President Tom Lewand has apologized on behalf of the organization.
Detroit Coach Jim Schwartz said he did not hear or see Raiola talking to band members, but he would be disappointed if the reports are true.
"When you're on the road there's hostile environments, fans say a lot things and stuff like that. We need to stay above stuff like that. We're going to look into it as an organization. I'd be very disappointed if there was the case cause that's certainly not character we want to display," said Schwartz.
Raiola, a 13-year veteran, is the longest-tenured member on the Lions roster.
