Short race in Kalamazoo aims to boost charity
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - A short running race planned for downtown Kalamazoo aims to raise money for charity.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the "Ultimate Extreme Ultra .1K" is scheduled for Saturday. Proceeds benefit services at Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Registration is $25, and participants will take home shirts and goodie bags.
With the popularity of marathons and other long-distance races, organizer Tom Jager says the roughly 330-foot race is "a spoof on a running event."
After the run, restaurants and retailers along the Kalamazoo Mall will be offering deals for people who participate in the race.
Hundreds of people are expected for the event.
