Man arrested after crashing into church

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Grand Rapids police say a drunk driver crashed into the side of Brookside Christian Reformed Church around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The 21-year old failed to stop at a flashing red light on Kalamazoo Ave. and jumped the curb. A church office was badly damaged.

Church member Phyllis Moes says "A car came down 36th Street, didn't stop, made it all the way into the building, past the barriers we have. We have big rocks and trees there, in hopes of slowing down cars from hitting the building, but this one took a rock with it and came right in through my window."

Moes also tells Newschannel 3 a similar crash happened at the church last June.

The driver, who was not injured morning, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
