Driver crashes during police chase, tosses evidence

LAKETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Deputies in Allegan County say a driver crashed his vehicle during a chase with police Tuesday.

It started when a deputy saw a vehicle going south on 60th Street near 138th Ave. at a high rate of speed.

When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle the driver accelerated away.

The driver crashed a short time later after failing to make a turn. He and a passenger climbed out of the ditch they had crashed into and attempted to run away on foot.

The deputy says that the driver was throwing away items as he exited the vehicle.

The driver was lodged on the following charges:
  • Operating while intoxicated
  • Driving while license suspended
  • Fleeing and eluding
  • Possession of Meth components
  • Expired license

The passenger was lodged on a charge of possession of marijuana.
