GR pastor struck by car, killed in Tennessee

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Grand Rapids pastor and counselor Wednesday night, after he was struck and killed by a car in Tennessee.

71-year-old Reverend Allen Hoogewind was a grief therapist at Centennial Park Counseling in Grand Rapids.

While attending a conference in Nashville, he was hit by a car as he crossed the street.

Police are still looking for the car that struck Hoogewind.

Tonight, his co-workers at Centennial Park released a statement, saying in part:

"Al had a great passion, not only for the Lord, but for his clients. His expertise in the addiction areas has made a huge impact on our community in Grand Rapids and worldwide. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Coral and his family."
