Ottawa Co. lieutenant expects charges soon in Park Twp. homicide

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Newschannel 3 has obtained exclusive information Thursday night on a mysterious murder more than three months ago in Ottawa County's Park Township.

38-year-old Jose Patricio Hernandez was found dead, buried in freshly fallen snow next to his running car outside his home at Amberwood Apartments on January 6th.

Detectives say he was likely there for at least 24 hours by the time someone found him.

An autopsy showed the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Within two weeks, Maryann Castorena, an ex-girlfriend, and Anthony Delagarza, a former roommate, were arrested for lying to police.

An Ottawa County judge set bail at $1 million for each of them, calling them the main suspects in the murder investigation--but murder charges never followed.

But we now know that may soon be changing.

For more than 3 months now, Ottawa County has been in possession of their cars, their computers, and their cellphones, making life very difficult.

We asked an Ottawa County lieutenant why, and he says the answer is simple: it's all evidence in a murder investigation, and he believes murder charges against both suspects are now imminent.

Ottawa County says while investigating Castorena and Delagarza, the department has served more than 60 warrants and subpoenaed hundreds of witnesses for testimony under oath.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says it has discovered motive in the Hernandez murder and that information will be released as soon as charges are issued.
