Michaels confirms security breach, Mich. A.G. offers tips to keep safe

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Arts and crafts store chain Michaels is confirming a security breach may have exposed the credit card information of about 2.6 million customers, and Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says 35 Michigan stores were affected.

The company says both stores were attacked by criminals using highly sophisticated malware that has not been encountered before by the two security firms.

The new details come about 3 months after another data breach that affected Michaels and Target customers.

It's unknown at this time just how much information was stolen.

If you used a credit card at Michaels recently, the attorney general has some information to help you protect yourself.
