Parents should avoid health plans with high deductibles

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Parents with small children should stay away from health plans with low premiums and high deductibles.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says many parents opt for those plans because they are cheaper up front.

But parents with small children usually visit the doctor the most, so they end up paying more out of pocket because of the high deductibles.

Experts say those plans are better suited for people who do not need to visit the doctor too often.
