(NEWSCHANNEL 3) Police in Grand Rapids called out the bomb squad Friday after a pipe bomb was found in a garage. Police were called to the 1800 block of Madison Avenue SE around 10:30 Friday morning after a court officer found what appeared to be an improvised explosive device in the garage of a home where there had been a recent eviction. There, police found a cylindrical object covered in tape with a fuse sticking out of it. The bomb squad responded and after x-raying the device discovered it was a pipe bomb taped to another can of highly flammable fluid. Bomb squad technicians were able to render the device safe through a controlled explosion and bomb robots. No one was injured, the incident remains under investigation.
