(NEWSCHANNEL 3) An Allegan man is facing child abuse charges, accused of burning his girlfriends four-year-old son with a cigarette lighter. Michigan State Police troopers arrested 30-year-old Joshua Lee Newton of Allegan on Thursday. Troopers say Newton is suspected of burning his girlfriends son with a cigarette lighter. Troopers began their investigation after Newtons girlfriend told them of the abuse. Newton was arraigned Friday on charges of second and third degree child abuse. He is being held on a $25,000 bond. Newton faces up to ten years in prison if convicted.
