On Friday seven of the suspects were arraigned on meth charges. This follows a two-day investigation conducted by the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team at a home on South Burdick Street. Meth continues to penetrate the Comstock Township and Kalamazoo area. Comstock says it has a plan to get rid of meth altogether by 2016. Meanwhile, another raid has gone down in Kalamazoo. A condemned house now sits vacant on South Burdick Street. It was a far different scene on Thursday. Investigators say six suspects were arrested at the house after officers entered, finding a strong chemical smell and heavy haze with a bottle making a chemical gas. A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, described what he saw. They all jumped out with their vests on, guns, with their dogs, they all had battering rams, said the neighbor. Its the latest meth bust in a series of drug raids in the Kalamazoo area, Comstock Township leaders tell Newschannel 3 that theyre taking an aggressive approach to drive the drug out as theyve dealt with at least seven different meth labs in one month. We are aware we have a problem, we are going to clean it up, said Ann Nieuwenhuis, Comstock Township Supervisor. One of the suggestions on the strategic plan we just did, is within two years meth production will be eradicated from Comstock Township. In total, eight suspects were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday during the Kalamazoo investigation, including one man who tried hiding between a dishwasher and the wall at that home. Some believe these types of alleged criminals are targeting neighborhoods with blight or with rental units. Those who live on the tight-knit section of Burdick says its new to them. They all know each other, no problems whatsoever, until this, said a neighbor. Comstock says it tore down eight homes in 2013 because of meth contamination.
