The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids and northern Indiana issues a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Berrien, Cass, St. Joe, and Branch counties until 10 PM.  Damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or greater are the primary concern.  Large hail of 1" in diameter or larger is a close second.  We'll be tracking storm development with Live Doppler Radar throughout your afternoon and evening.  Storm motion is easterly at 30 to 50 mph.  Stay with for the latest weather information!

Car crashes into pole near Loy Norrix

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Emergency crews have now cleared the scene after a driver crashed into a light pole in Kalamazoo.

It happened around 8:00 outside Loy Norrix High School.

Police say the driver was travelling on Lovers Lane when a malfunctioning hydrant sprayed her car with water.

The water iced over on her windshield immediately and she couldn't see.

She drove over the median and into the pole.

The driver was not hurt. One lane of traffic that was shut down while the scene cleared.
