Pfizer recalls some lots of Effexor XR

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) Kalamazoo-based Pfizer is recalling some lots of its antidepressant Effexor XR.

The drug maker says the recall is a precaution after a single capsule of a different drug, Tikosyn, was found in a bottle of Effexor XR.

Tikosyn is a drug used to treat irregular heartbeat. It can cause serious side effects, including a type of abnormal heartbeat, which can lead to death.

The recall involves both Pfizer Effexor XR and the generic version sold under the brand name of Greenstone.

The effected lot numbers are Pfizer lot numbers V130142 and V130140, which both expire in October 2015, and Greenstone lot number V130014, which expires in August 2015.

If you have a recalled bottle, call your doctor.
