Grand Rapids man sentenced in 2012 shooting death

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man convicted of killing his half brother in December of 2012 learned his sentence in Kent County court Tuesday.

18-year-old Royale Runyon was sentenced to 30 to 90 years in prison on a charge of second degree murder for the death of Mahdi Hayes in Grand Rapids, and was also sentenced to two years for a felony firearms charge.

Runyon was found guilty by a jury in mid-January, after police say he gunned down Hayes in an alley off Worden Street just over a year prior.

Police say he is also a suspect in the shooting death of Hayes' former girlfriend Eve'vana Galloway, but he has not been charged in her death.
