Prison escapee arraigned in court

LAPORTE COUNTY, Indiana (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We are learning new information about escaped killer Michael Elliot who was captured Monday night in Indiana.

Elliot was arraigned in Laporte County, Indiana Tuesday morning.

He's been charged with the theft of an auto and has a one million dollar bond.

As he was leaving the courtroom, Elliot said, "because I'm from Michigan, because of my sentence, they don't want to give me a chance."

He is fighting extradition to Michigan. He will now likely be brought back under a Governor's Warrant.

Police finally tracked him down when they stopped a car that was reported stolen.

Deputies say Elliot was behind the wheel and tried to outrun them, but they put down stop strips and caught him.

We also learned from police in Indiana that all told, they believe Elliot stole three separate vehicles, two of them in Indiana.

Elliot escaped from the Ionia Correctional Facility Sunday night.
