TB tests come back with good results for Kalamazoo Central HS

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department has confirmed to Newschannel 3 that the tuberculosis testing from Kalamazoo Central has come back, and the results are the best they could have hoped for.

According to Director of Health and Community Services Linda Vail, there are no active cases of TB at Kalamazoo Central High School that were revealed from their testing.

In addition, she said that the results were below the national average for latent cases of TB; in those cases, individuals do not feel sick, do not have any symptoms, are not infectious, and cannot spread infection to others.

According to the CDC, of those with latent TB infection, only 5 to 10 percent will develop the disease at some point in their life without treatment.

Vail said that if she were to test several hundred students at any high school in America, they would find a small handful of latent cases.
