Multiple fires in Calhoun Co. Friday afternoon

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Crews were on the scene of multiple fires in Calhoun County Friday afternoon.

One fire broke out in the 200 block of Capital Avenue NE in Battle Creek, at an old house which had been converted to apartments.

Reportedly, one of the apartments on the upper level was using a space heater, which firefighters say was the likely cause of the fire.

Roughly a dozen people were evacuated, but there appears to be minimal damage.

Another fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. in Albion, in the 100 block of South Superior.

There are reportedly a couple of apartments on the top of the building, and multiple businesses below them--including an art gallery.

Several departments are on the scene.
