Niles man catches record-breaking catfish

CASS COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A fisherman in Cass County has caught a catfish for the record books.

On January 13th Dale Blakley of Niles caught a flathead catfish on Barron Lake that weighed 52.0 pounds. The fish was 46.02 inches long.

Blakely was ice fishing for crappies when he hooked the lunker.

The previous state record was 49.8 pounds and the fish measured 45.7 inches.

Catching this fish was the most exhilarating experience, said Blakley. It was only the second time Ive ever gone ice fishing and it was the only bite we had on the lake the whole day. This definitely sits at the top of my list!
