WIND ADVISORY

10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with wwmt.com for your weather today and always!

Crimes statistics for 2013 in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - As we head into the New Year, Kalamazoo Public Safety takes a look back at 2013.

The city had eight homicides in 2013 and two remain unsolved.

Chief Jeff Hadley says last year police did not see random street level violence, but rather crimes where the suspect and victim knew each other.

The department hopes to cut down on crime in 2014 by building relationships with the community.

Here are some interesting crime statistics for the City of Kalamazoo. Chief Hadley tells us eight is the average number of homicides for a city the size of Kalamazoo. In the last five years, he's seen a 30 percent reduction in "part one crimes," which includes homicide, rape, arson and aggravated assault.

Chief Hadley also says the national average of solvability of homicides is 60 percent. KDPS is 90%.

In the last four years KDPS has solved 32 of the last 35 homicides.
