Hungry Howie's robbed in Texas Twp.

TEXAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputies are searching for two robbers after, deputies say, they held up the Hungry Howie's Pizza at gunpoint.

It was just before 11 Friday night when deputies say two men walked into the off Eighth Street.

"Both were wearing masks, one brandished a gun and they robbed the clerks who were there" Kalamazoo Undersheriff Paul Matyas says. He says one men was also wearing a camouflage jacket. "This was a quick in and out. They didn't get very much money to begin with."

The robbers took off. Deputies say they were able to track them with a K-9 unit to the 6800 block of Texas Drive, located right behind the business. That's where they believe the suspects got into a vehicle and drove away.

"Texas Township has its issues, but armed robbery is just not one of them. This is something we don't see in this particular area," Matyas says.

Employees at Hungry Howie's declined to comment, but customers tell Newschannel 3 the crime has them on edge.

"This is an area that has a lot of college students, a lot of families and it's kind of scary to think, 'What if you were coming to get your pizza at that time?'" Kristil Semrau says.

Anyone with information about this armed robbery is asked to call the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department or Silent Observer.
