Fire Marshal believes vacant house fires set by same person

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A string of suspicious vacant house fires on Kalamazoo's north side may have been intentionally set by the same person.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Fire Marshal Jim Williams told Newschannel 3 Friday afternoon that in the past three months, fires have torn through five vacant homes.

Three fires were set on Elizabeth Street, and two other fires happened on Ada Street and North Park Street.

Williams believes they were set by the same person because all of the houses are within walking distance.

Anyone with information on the suspicious fires is asked to call KDPS right away.
