Traffic stop leads to arrest and 3 guns recovered

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Breaking overnight, four people are arrested and guns are confiscated in a West Michigan community.

It all started with a report of a domestic assault in Kalamazoo that then led officers to the guns. Kalamazoo Public Safety says officers were called out to the 1200 block of Lake Street around 12:45 a.m.

Officers say there was a fight between a man and woman and the man fired one shot in the air from a handgun. The suspect then fled the scene with five other people in a station wagon. They were quickly pulled over by an officer on Gull Road and four were arrested.

The main suspect, a 20-year-old Kalamazoo man, was arrested on weapons and assault charges. A 14-year-old in the station wagon was arrested for curfew violation. Two others were arrested for marijuana and outstanding warrants. The two other people in the car were released.

Public safety officers say three handguns were confiscated; one of them was stolen in Kalamazoo Township.

Charges are now going to the prosecutor's office.
