Troopers arrest fugitive in stolen vehicle after pursuit

COLON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An 18-year-old Battle Creek man is behind bars on several charges after he led Michigan State Police on a chase in stolen truck through several counties.

Michigan State Police tell Newschannel 3 it started after a tip came in that a wanted fugitive was driving a stolen truck Friday night around 8:30 p.m.

The vehicle was found on Colon Road west of the village of Colon in St. Joseph County.

Troopers tried to pull the truck over, but the driver took off, leading troopers on a chase through blizzard-like conditions.

After a lengthy chase the driver ended up at a dead end behind a Calhoun County home.

The driver was arrested without further incident.

A shotgun was found in the truck along with ammunition and suspected stolen property, according to troopers.

Troopers say the man also admitted to stealing three other vehicles and breaking into more than 10 storage units.

He was arrested on many charges including Flee and Elude, Stolen Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Firearms, Possession of an Uncased Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Driving While License Suspended as well as an outstanding felony warrant for Stolen Vehicle, and three outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Michigan State Police are investigating.
