Domestic violence can be more frequent in cold weather

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Domestic violence is a nationwide problem all year round, but cold weather can sometimes cause more incidents.

The Allegan County Sheriff's Department says people become bored and tensions rise when you can't get out of the home.

Also, people tend to drink more because they know they aren't going anywhere.

We're told the key to getting out of a situation like this is to have a plan.

During the recent snowfall and cold temperatures this week, Allegan County deputies say they didn't really see any more cases than normal.

Typically, there are about 2-3 calls of domestic disputes a day during this time of year.
