Suspect in multiple bank robberies now in custody

TEKONSHA, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An update now to a bank robbery first reported back in June. On December 27th Calhoun County Sheriff Detectives and Federal Officials were contacted by Allegan County Sheriff Detectives.

They advised that a 59-year-old South Bend, Indiana man was arrested in Allegan County in connection with an attempted bank robbery.

Detectives believed the suspect was connected to other bank robberies in Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana.

Detectives say it appears the suspect was involved in the June 28, 2013 robbery of the Southern Michigan National Bank in Tekonsha.

Detectives believe the suspect parked his car near the boat launch of the St. Joseph River near the intersection of Old 27 and W drive South.

The suspect rode a bicycle during the robbery and loaded it in his car and fled.

As a result of the information, detectives searched the suspect's home in South Bend, Indiana and a recreational vehicle in Edwardsburg, Michigan.

The suspect is currently being held at the Allegan County Jail.
