Consumers Energy ramps up efforts to get the lights back on

WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Consumers Energy is calling in utility workers from as far away as Kansas to help turn the lights back on.

The most recent numbers we have show Barry County as the hardest hit still, with more than 17,000 remaining without power.

Around 9,700 customers in Calhoun County are still dark, and Kent, Kalamazoo, Ionia, and Allegan Counties are all still in the thousands as well.

Now, with more snow falling on all that ice, there could be even more problems in the next few days.

Newschannel 3's Jared Werksma joined us driving southbound on US-131 in Kent County with more on the conditions.
