Sen. Levin discusses Defense Reauthorization Act's Michigan impact

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We're learning Friday night how the 2014 Defense Authorization Act, which gained final passage in the Senate late Thursday night, will impact Michigan.

According to Senator Carl Levin, the bill includes millions of dollars in funding for several Michigan-related projects. One of them impacts Battle Creek.

Nearly $22 million will go to a nationwide department of defense starbase program.

The program operates at 76 locations, three in Michigan, including one at Kellogg Air National Guard base in Battle Creek.

Starbase is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics education program designed to excite K-12 students about these topics through exposure to the technological foundations of national security.

The bill now goes to President Obama for his signature.
